Kelly is a resident of Middletown and the founder of Middle City Stage Company, under which the first two 5 Arts programs (5Arts2010 and 5Arts2013) were produced. The concept for 5 Arts grew from Middle City Stage’s first production, William Mastrosimone’s The Woolgatherer, which included a visual arts exhibit, poets to open each performance, and a live musician to accompany the play itself. Kelly has also produced and directed two films: Only In Fiction and Protector of the Kingdom, which was selected for viewing in the 2013 New England Underground Film Festival. He has produced and/or directed several productions including Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love at New Britain Rep, Lanford Wilson’s Fifth of July and Ingmar Bergman’s Through A Glass Darklyat Hole In The Wall in New Britain, and Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues at MAC650 in Middletown. Kelly would like to thank his partner in 5 Arts Connecticut, Cie Peterson, for reinvigorating the 5 Arts tradition. Her talents and efforts are invaluable. He would also like to thank Charter Oak Cultural Center for hosting 5 Arts Connecticut and The Greater Hartford Arts Council for their support.
